Second vintage of high-achieving wine released

With the award-winning Mount Dottrel Pinot Noir 2005 now all but sold out, wine lovers will be pleased to know that our second vintage is now available.

Mount Dottrel Central Otago Pinot Noir 2006 was released on 1 May 2008. Its predecessor – the first wine we’ve ever produced – won a Top 100 Blue-Gold medal and was joint runner up for the trophy for best Pinot Noir at this year’s Sydney International Wine Competition.

"The 2006 vintage was warm, so we got lots of big fruit, giving the wine immediate softness and appeal. It has a good tannin structure, so it will make a good food wine too."

Tangy, lively and generous, the Mount Dottrel Central Otago Pinot Noir ...

Mount Dottrel wins Sydney trophy with first ever rosé

Our first ever rosé, Mount Dottrel Central Otago Saignée Rosé 2006, won the trophy for best rosé at the 2008 Sydney International Wine Competition.

The trophy was awarded to co-owner Roy McCallum and winemaker Carol Bunn at a banquet in Sydney on 1 March 2008.

They very nearly had to pick up two trophies, as our very first wine, Mount Dottrel Central Otago Pinot Noir 2005, was joint runner up for the trophy for best Pinot Noir!

Both these wines are made from 100% Pinot Noir grown on the family vineyard.

It was announced earlier that both wines we entered won Blue-Gold medals at the competition and were rated among the Top 100 wines entered.

Our first two wines win Top 100 in Sydney

The two first wines we ever made won Top 100 Blue-Gold awards at the 2008 Sydney International Wine Competition.

The winners are Mount Dottrel Pinot Noir 2005, as well as the Mount Dottrel Saignée Rosé 2006, our second wine (and first rosé).

The awards mean that both these wines were judged to be among the 100 top-rated of all the wines entered. The magnitude of this feat becomes obvious when one considers that more than 2,000 wines from ten different countries were entered for one of the world’s most respected wine competitions.

“These results vindicate the leap of faith we took as a family to develop a vineyard where we did, the vines we planted and the team we brought together,” says Roy McCallum, who founded the vineyard with his s ...
