Our Mount Dottrel Pinot Noir 2007 just won the top trophy in London!
It’s a long way from running a herd of dairy cows in tiny Pahiatua to having your wine crowned best Pinot Noir in the world!
That’s been our journey over the last couple of years, since we first planted Mitre Rocks Vineyard in 2000.
The team here is absolutely thrilled. It’s fantastic that our Mount Dottrel Central Otago Pinot Noir 2007 has just won the Bouchard-Finlayson Trophy for the Best Pinot Noir at the 2009 London International Wine and Spirit Competition.
This internationally recognised competition has been running for 40 years and is perhaps the most prestigious of its kind, so this is a great accolade for our Pinot. The standard is incredibly high. Our Mount Dottrel wine was one of only six Pinot Noirs among the more than 140 entries from all around the world that was deemed worthy of a gold medal. Our wine was also named Best in Class.
Our new Mitre Rocks label also did very well in the competition, with the Pinot Noir from the 2007 vintage earning a very respectable silver medal.
Nobody could be more delighted than us with this result. But the fact is, there is no way we could’ve achieved this without the help and experience of our wonderful team of James Dicey, Carol Bunn and the people around them. Our collective belief in Central Otago Pinot Noir has indeed been rewarded.
Our trophy winning Mount Dottrel Central Otago Pinot Noir 2007 is freely available in New Zealand, as well as in select international markets. Get hold of some and see what impressed the judges so much!
